3 Reasons Why Your Young Child Needs A Trike

Many parents and children consider riding a tricycle a right of passage of growing up and transitioning between a toddler and a child. The majority of children will be able to ride their first tricycle at the age of 2 to 3 years old, and then move on to pedal bikes as they grow older.

Riding a trike is important, as it contributes to the physical, psychological and emotional development of young children.

Balance and coordination

Parents worry that children’s motor skills are being affected by the increased use of screens, such as tablets and television. When children are young, they make big gains fine and gross motor movements which sets them up fr later in life. It is very important to start building on these skills as young as possible.

Although most children have difficulty with the trike initially, they soon learn to control their arms, legs and speed.

A trike is perfectly coupled with a balance bike in early learning. A trike will teach a child to pedal and a balance bike will teach a child to balance. Mastering a balance bike and trike will make the transition to a pedal bike much much easier.

Confidence and Independence

Your child will become stronger and more proficient at riding their tricycle. This will help them to be more independent and confident. These children are eager learners and will look for new things to do.

They can take their trike wherever they like. This is in sharp contrast to using a stroller that is controlled by the parent. Children can have some autonomy with a trike that gives them more freedom than they had before.

Understanding the Basic Road Rules

A trike can be a wonderful tool to teach children basic road rules. Children will quickly be able to distinguish between left and right, forwards or backwards, and “stop”. As the child grows, you can even start teaching other road rules, including traffic lights, road signs and more.

Little Nations range of 3 in 1 push trikes are the best option

Our trikes are designed as a trike first: Many convertible trikes on the market are not designed to be used as a stand alone trike, they are flimsy and do not cope with the stresses that a pre school child can put them through. This often means that they are rendered useless when your child has grown enough to use the trike without a parent pushing. Our trikes have bigger wheels, a thicker frame and higher specs designed for heavier kids.
